You can reactivate old enquiries without a discount by addressing why the customer paused: timing, incomplete information, uncertainty or a changed need. Start with contacts you can appropriately message, segment them by their original interest and offer a relevant next step.
A dormant contact list is not automatically a permissioned marketing audience, and a reply is not automatically a sale.
Choose one identifiable segment
Separate past customers, unfinished enquiries and people who asked to revisit later. Use the original service and last conversation where available. Remove opted-out, invalid and unsuitable records from the sending audience.
If you cannot establish the relationship or messaging permissions, resolve that before launching. Check the current requirements for the channel and destination market rather than assuming an old enquiry authorizes every campaign.
Offer help with the unresolved decision
For someone who requested a quote, ask whether scope or timing still needs clarification. For a customer who postponed an appointment, offer updated availability. For a buyer who could not find the right product, ask whether the requirement has changed.
Example: 'You previously asked about [service]. Is that still something you want to explore, or should we close the enquiry? If it is still relevant, our team can help with [specific next step].'
This gives the person control and makes an honest answer easy.
Use value that preserves margin
An assessment checklist, a clearer comparison or a short conversation may help more than a price cut. Do not invent scarcity or claim a limited offer unless it is real and approved.
For complex services, the goal may be a qualified consultation rather than immediate purchase. Define the next step before writing the message.
Plan for replies before sending
Assign each segment to a responsible person. Pause the sequence on a reply and create a task with the original context. Handle 'not now', 'already solved' and opt-out responses differently.
Run a small pilot that your team can service. A large send that creates an unattended inbox repeats the original follow-up problem at a larger scale.
Evaluate completed outcomes
Track eligible contacts, delivered messages, relevant replies, consultations, completed sales and contribution. Exclude duplicates and existing active deals from claims of newly recovered revenue.
Hypothetical example: a pilot generates twelve replies, of which four are no longer interested, five request information and three book. Reporting twelve recovered customers would be misleading.
CMH Consultancy can help clean the audience and build a reactivation pilot. Bring the original enquiry source, service categories and current contact preferences so the campaign begins with relevance and an appropriate sending basis.
